Mark of the Devil is a 1970 German horror film directed by Michael Armstrong and Adrian Hoven. Set in the 18th century, the film tells the tale of witch trials. It follows an apprentice witchfinder, Count Christian von Meruh (Udo Kier), who becomes disillusioned with the sadistic actions of his mentor, Lord Cumberland (Herbert Lom). As von Meruh begins to question the morality of their actions and the authenticity of the confessions they extract through torture, he finds himself in conflict with the very system he is a part of.
